The Comfort – “Blossom”
The Comfort are back with a new single, Blossom - and fuck me dead, it’s a moody little belter that struts like it’s been through a breakdown and come out wearing a leather jacket and a fresh existential crisis.
Off the back of a national tour with Chasing Ghosts and ahead of their spot at this year’s Converge Festival, the Brisbane trio are clearly still swinging, and Blossom proves they’ve got more fight left in them than a magpie in mating season.
The track dives headfirst into creative burnout - not in a “woe is me” way, but in a “we’ve seen the abyss, and now we’re dancing in it” kind of vibe. Laced with brooding alt rock grooves and just enough sparkle to keep it from being a full blown emotional spiral, it’s like The 1975 got sad and grew a backbone. Think soaring dual vocals, gritty hooks, and lyrics that punch you in the chest with a smile. It’s all about pushing through the noise, rediscovering the love of creating music, and refusing to roll over and die in a sea of algorithm chasing bullshit.

Working again with Callan Orr - who knows his way around a polished but punchy production, the band dips back into the heavier edge of their early sound while still holding onto the melodic, introspective side that’s made them such a staple in Australia’s alt scene.
And look, if you’ve ever wanted to quit your job, burn your guitar, and take up basket weaving, Blossom is the anthem for your tired, overworked soul. It’s honest, it’s cathartic, and it still slaps hard enough to make you scream along on the drive home.
For fans of Deadlights, Young Lions, and anyone still clinging to the emotional wreckage left behind by early Saosin. The Comfort aren’t reinventing the wheel here, they’re just showing us how to keep it bloody rolling.
Blossom is out now.
Stream it. Cry a bit. Then go start that band.
