Alex the Kid – “Homeward Bound”
Well fuck me sideways with a Bunnings snag - Alex the Kid are back. After almost a decade of silence, these regional punk legends have risen from the grave with “Homeward Bound”, a single so full of guts, grit and emotional baggage it should come with a health warning and a box of tissues.
This isn’t some half-arsed reunion track churned out for nostalgia points. Nah, this bastard rips. It’s loud, it’s raw, and it hits harder than a UDL hangover at your cousin’s wedding. Built on thick riffs, layered harmonies and enough heartfelt screaming to make your nan worry, “Homeward Bound” finds the band leaning into their roots while sounding more grown-up.
Lyrically, it’s a full blown yell into the void about growing up, fucking it up, and dragging yourself back out of the wreckage. You can almost smell the pub carpet and late night servo runs soaked into the sound. It’s angsty, melodic, and somehow still feels like it was recorded with a warm beer in one hand and a broken heart in the other.
And let’s not gloss over the big news - Ken, the original bloody guitarist, is back on board. That’s like finding out your dog came back after being missing for years… but the dog shreds and has a pedalboard.
If this is what the new era of Alex the Kid sounds like, then count me the fuck in. “Homeward Bound” is the anthem for anyone who’s tired, broke, and still fighting, the perfect soundtrack to scream alone in your car, cry in your hoodie, then get out and face the world anyway.
Welcome back, you beautiful emotional bastards.
