SEDATIVE – “Love Is Not Enough”
“Romance is dead, and Sedative f**ked the corpse.”
Get ready to have your eardrums turned into minced meat by WA’s heaviest export since a B&S ball brawl - SEDATIVE. Their new album Love Is Not Enough (out June 6) is a sonic throat punch soaked in heartbreak, rage, and just enough filth to make your mum pray harder.
This isn’t your cousin’s metalcore. This is emotional trauma delivered by five blokes who sound like they’ve been left on read one too many times and decided to respond with blast beats and breakdowns that could collapse a fkn highway bridge.
Opening with “12 Gauge Apology”, SEDATIVE let you know right away - this isn’t a cuddle session, it’s a hate fuelled lap dance from Satan himself. From there it just gets nastier. “Baptism of Nails” feels like being reborn via chainsaw, and “Get The Dog” (featuring NO FACE NO CASE) hits so hard it’ll have your teeth clenching like you’re mid headjob in a gravel pit.
Every track oozes violence and vulnerability. “Love Like Stabwounds” is exactly what it sounds like - a slow, sexy dirge that’ll make you wanna cry in the shower while flexing in the mirror. And “Medulla Oblongata”? That’s just foreplay for a full-on sonic gangbang.
Lyrically, it’s raw, peeled sunburn raw. We’re talking despondency, grief, fucked-up love, and regret, all screamed through gritted teeth and drop-tuned doom riffs. There’s pain in every note - but it’s the hot, damaged kind. Like an ex you definitely shouldn’t text, but do anyway ‘cause you like the drama.
SEDATIVE aren’t just pushing boundaries, they’re pile-driving them into the floor, lighting them on fire, and screaming at the ashes. Love Is Not Enough is brutal, horny, heartbroken chaos, and it’s one of the sexiest gut-punch albums Australia’s ever spat out.
Crank it. Break something. Cry a little. Root a stranger. Repeat.
