Moribund Oblivion — Intertemporal

With over two decades behind them, Moribund Oblivion return in 2025 with their tenth full length, Intertemporal (Theogonia Records), a record that solidifies their standing as one of Turkey’s most enduring and uncompromising black metal forces. At just over 36 minutes, the album is lean, focused, and utterly confident in its execution, proving that longevity has only sharpened their craft.

From the opening track “A Piece of Infinity”, the listener is thrown straight into the icy core of Moribund Oblivion’s sound. The riffs cut with precision, the drumming drives with intent, and Bahadır Uludağlar’s vocals remain as commanding as ever — harsh, articulate, and perfectly balanced against the dense atmosphere. Rather than rely purely on aggression, the band layers in dynamics that give the record depth and replay value.

The centerpiece is undeniably the title track, “Intertemporal”, where melodic threads are woven into a maelstrom of blast beats and dissonance. It captures the thematic focus of the record, time, existence, and the fragile line between chaos and order, without losing the raw intensity that defines their identity. “The Remains of Your Ancestors” stretches beyond six minutes, pulling the listener into a darker, more expansive space, while “Cold the Night” and “Deceptive Portals” showcase the band’s ability to balance atmosphere with razor sharp riffing.

What sets Intertemporal apart is its clarity of vision. Recorded and mixed by guitarist Feyzi Ocak at Gepetto Studio and mastered by Erman Aydöner at Lavega Sound, the production strikes the right balance between rawness and definition. Every instrument has weight and presence, yet nothing detracts from the overall atmosphere. The visuals, designed by Uludağlar himself, complement the music’s introspective and otherworldly themes.

Moribund Oblivion have never been a band content with recycling ideas, and Intertemporal demonstrates both growth and consistency. It is an album rooted in black metal tradition but unafraid to explore, refine, and expand. For long time followers, it is a reaffirmation of the band’s stature & for newcomers, it is an accessible yet uncompromising entry point.

A concise, ambitious, and immersive release — Moribund Oblivion continue to prove why they remain one of the most vital black metal acts to emerge from Turkey.
