Insect – “Neanderthal” 2-Track Review

Queensland’s own heavy hitting bastards Insect are back, and this time they’ve shat out a two track that hits like a brick to the teeth. Titled “Neanderthal”, this thing is rough, raw, and about as subtle as a sledgehammer to the nuts.

First up is “Vermin”, featuring Beau Frizzell from Toowoomba slamlords Deep Leech. This track doesn’t ease you in - it straight up boots the door off its hinges and starts throwing elbows. Beau’s vocals sound like they were recorded mid-bar fight and the riffs are thick enough to choke on. It’s short, savage, and doesn’t waste a single second. If you’re not windmilling your arms like an idiot in the lounge room by the 30-second mark, check your pulse.

Then there’s “Neanderthal” featuring Aiden Duke from Deathrow (Southport’s own beatdown merchants). This one’s slower, shorter, nastier, and stomps like a caveman with a vendetta. The vocals are pure filth, the breakdown feels like getting hit by a ute, and the whole thing is just dripping with testosterone and spite. You could play this at a BBQ and start a circle pit around the esky.

Production from Crucible Sound is tight as a nun’s nasty - every riff lands like a punch, and the mix lets the grime shine without turning it into mush. This shit is dialled in and dangerous.

To celebrate the release, Insect are headlining Volcanic Brewing in Toowoomba on July 12, with the legends at Lust & Loathe putting it all together. Expect sweat, riffs, and probably someone getting punched with a mid-set shoey.

“Neanderthal” is no frills, all fury Aussie heavy music - made by blokes who sound like they lift bricks for fun and scream just to feel alive. Get around it.
