Brisbane’s Daylight Vandal have dropped their demo Qualia, and instead of trying to blow your head off with noise, they’ve gone straight for the heart. This isn’t a track that’s gonna start a pub brawl, it’s the kind that sneaks up on you at 2 a.m., beer in hand, and makes you think about the one that got away.

The jangly guitars shimmer like a half remembered summer, dripping in that late 90s indie rock glow. It’s got echoes of early Jebediah, sure, but with a gentler touch, more stargazing than stage diving. The chorus is catchy as hell, the kind of hook you find yourself humming while stuck in traffic, and the vocals carry just enough crack around the edges to feel raw and real.

The lyrics lean into reflection and heartbreak without tipping into soppy shit. It’s honest, unpretentious, and relatable, the sort of song that feels like a diary entry accidentally left on the amp for everyone to hear. Even as a demo, there’s a warmth in the performance that makes it hard to shake off.

It’s rough around the edges, for sure, but that just makes it hit harder. Qualia is proof Daylight Vandal aren’t just chasing riffs, they’re chasing moments, memories, and the messy, beautiful bits in between. And if this is just the demo stage, the polished version could knock the fkn wind out of you in a beat.
