Big Red Fire Truck’s new single Testarossa isn’t just a nod to the excess of ’80s hard rock, it’s a high-octane tribute delivered with enough crunch and swagger to rattle your fillings loose. Equal parts nostalgia and forward motion, the Sydney quartet have bottled lightning and poured it straight into a Marshall stack.
From the first riff, Testarossa sounds like you’re speeding down the main strip in a cherry red convertible, leather pants squeaking, hair flapping, and a pair of platform boots you can’t walk in but refuse to take off. It’s loud, fast, and unapologetically over the top - think Van Halen’s flash, AC/DC’s stomp, and The Darkness’ sense of the ridiculous, all duct taped together with modern production and a cheeky middle finger to subtlety.
Digby Robinson, a frontman who moonlights as a pro wrestler (of course he does), belts out each line like he’s trying to out scream the engine of an actual Testarossa. The chorus is built for fists in the air and beer on your jeans, while the solo is an absolute shred fest - flashy, melodic, and just the right amount of wankery.
There’s a real self-awareness here. BRFT know exactly what they’re doing, and they’re doing it with a grin, a thrust, and a devil horn raised high. It’s music made for stages covered in sweat, spandex, and the occasional questionable decision.
In a world that’s sometimes too cool for its own good, Testarossa is a reminder that rock should still be fun - big, dumb, foot stomping fun. And Big Red Fire Truck are leading the charge, hair first.
Chuck it on, turn it up, and prepare to rock so hard your nipples catch fire.
5/5 beer soaked leather pants.
