Stepson “Venom”

If Stepson used to be the heartbroken emo kid crying into their beer, Venom is the same kid now fully grown, covered in tattoos, and throwing the fucking beer at your head. Gone are the melodic singalongs and sad-boy anthems. Brisbane’s finest have officially snapped, and the result is one of their most unhinged, feral releases to date.

Venom isn’t here to make you feel better. It’s here to throw you in the pit, rip your feelings out, and stomp on them in a pair of Doc Martens. Produced by Callan Orr and mixed/mastered by Lance bloody Prenc (because of course it is), the track trades in emotion for pure fury, think heartbreak with a switchblade. It’s loud, it’s mean, and it doesn’t apologise for a single second.

Jayden Ridley puts it best: “We’re not sad kids anymore, we’re angry.” And you can fucking hear it. From the opening riff that sounds like a chainsaw trying to start in hell, to the guttural breakdown that practically begs for a wall of death, Venom is built for live chaos. If you’re not throwing fists by the second verse, you’re either unconscious or already in hospital.

This isn’t just a sonic shift, it’s a full-blown evolution. Stepson have shed their emotional skin, spat on it, and lit it on fire. After celebrating 10 years in the scene and still selling out rooms, they’ve proven they’re not just surviving, they’re swinging harder than ever.

For fans of Polaris, Alpha Wolf, or just punching the air in your car on the way to work, Venom is an essential listen. It’s rage therapy with blast beats.

Stepson aren’t here to be the good guys anymore. They’ve gone full villain and they sound fucking glorious.

5/5 for these fkn geniuses.
