Thraxas! – Violent Vacation (2025)

Sydney’s thrash titans Thraxas! have officially dropped the gloves with their debut full length album “Violent Vacation” — a high octane, riff packed assault that captures the sound of a band hitting their stride and kicking the door down.

Formed in 2012 by guitarist and vocalist Bull Woods, Thraxas! have long been a staple of Australia’s underground metal scene. With a reputation built on blistering live shows and a loyal grassroots following, the band has already proven their chops with previous releases Cthulhu Rising (2019) and Planetary Terrorism (2021). But “Violent Vacation” is where it all explodes into full force. It’s tighter, heavier, and dripping with venom - the sound of a band who’ve been sharpening their blades on every sweaty pub stage across the country.

From the get go, opener “Blast Shadows” sets the tone - a blistering barrage of razor sharp riffs and groove heavy momentum. What follows is an 11-track rampage through modern thrash warfare, think old school aggression with a fresh Aussie punch. “The Rage of 1000 Suns” lives up to its name, scorching everything in its path, while the title track “Violent Vacation” delivers the kind of chorus you’ll be shouting back in a pit with a busted lip.

Elsewhere, “Rapid Descent Into Madness … And Brutality” and “Glory Is Reserved For The Dead”show the band’s range, balancing relentless speed with hooks that stick like dried blood. There’s also some real lyrical bite - “Sentenced to Debt” and “A Guide To Torture” dive into political and personal chaos without sounding preachy. Just pissed off in the best way.

The production, handled by Chris Blancato, is crisp but raw - no over polished nonsense here. The guitars cut like a rusty chainsaw, the drums hit like a cricket bat to the ribs, and Bull’s vocals are as furious and feral as ever. It’s a sound built for venues that reek of beer, sweat, and cheap pyro.
